This is a good older commercial variety bred to withstand heat and humidity and with a nice disease resistance. Fruits are a slightly flatted red globe that average around 8 oz and can get up to a pound.

The fruit are meaty with a small core. Fruit have a nice level of juice and good old fashioned flavor – not too sweet. It is good for both fresh eating and canning or drying. The plant is vigorous with strong stems and good production. A nice workhorse tomato.

Even though it was bred for the south, and is very popular there, it handles cooler weather well and is quite early in maturity.

This tomato was bred by Auburn University in Alabama back in the mid 1960’s. It has Rutgers in the breeding lines.

Here is a nice PDF leaflet about the variety when it was developed.
