Dr. Carolyn

A lovely cherry that changes color from green to ivory white to pale yellow when ripe. Fruit under leaf cover will be paler in color. Small fruit of 1 oz have a well balanced sweet and tangy combination. Not a bland tomato. Vigorous vines are quite productive and provide nice leaf cover.

Story:

From Tatiana’s TOMATObase:

Selected from a sport of Galina's, named by Steve Draper in honor of Dr. Carolyn Male (NY MA C) who first saved the seed.

Info from Dr. Carolyn herself :

it might interest some of you looking at this variety to know that it appeared in my garden from saved seeds of the variety Galina's Yellow, which is a pot leaf with exc gold cherry tomatoes from Siberia.

Not only did I get this one but also plants with salmon, yellow, red and pink from the same F2 seeds. I sent seeds of this ivory one to Steve Draper b'c he was also seeing instability with Galina's Yellow and it was he who named it. More recently this variety gave green when ripe cherries called Green Doctors and then Green Doctors somehow morphed into perhaps a clear epidermis giving a frosted appearance and that version was named Green Doctors Frosted.

I prefer three green when ripe cherries over all others and the three are Green Doctors or the "frosted version and also Green Zebra Cherry, not known to be related the the variety Green Zebra, but named in Germany b'c the expterior looks like Green Zebra and finally Verde Claro bred by Tom Wagner which also has a clear epidermis so also looks frosted, with no amber blush. Just a bit of background for those interested in histories of tomato varieties, as I am.”
