Indian Stripe

A lovely dusky purple tomato of about 6-12 oz that is quite similar to Cherokee Purple. Irregularly shaped and slightly flattened beefsteaks with green shoulders have a wonderful rich, complex sweet flavor. Flavor is best when fully ripe.

Very popular. Great production of fruit that are a little smaller and lighter in color than Cherokee Purple and can have a little better production with more fruit on each truss. The stripe in the name come from the faint green stripes on the unripe fruit that fade as it ripens. When it cools down in the fall, the tomatoes still just keep coming.

Story:

Clyde Burson of Arkansas grew this tomato for many many years. Donna Nelson of TX, a friend of the family from when she used to visit relatives nearby, received seeds from him and shared seeds with Carolyn Male through a forum they were part of. Mr. Burson had called it both Indian Stripe and Indian Zebra and Carolyn decided to stick with the Indian Stripe to reduce confusion with the Zebra part which is used by many other tomatoes. Carolyn passed seeds on to Craig Lehuiller and others and so we all get to try this lovely tomato.
