Developed in the 2006-2011 by the members of the Dwarf Tomato Project from a cross between Golden Dwarf Champion with Green Giant made in 2006 by Patrina Nuske Small in Australia, and named Sneezy.
The variety was selected and named by Craig LeHoullier after the gemstone Jade, which exhibits coloring similar to the tomato. Others tomato growers involved in its development are Lisa Moore, Richard Watson (New Zealand), Howard Kushner, and Bill Minkey (Wisconsin).
