Jersey Devil

One of the classic New Jersey processing tomatoes that many old timers fondly remember. The fruit are fire engine red and have that frying pepper pointy shape. Usually 4-6“ long, they are very meaty and have few seeds.

It has very heavy yields, but produce a little later than most. Great for canning and salsa making at the end of the summer when you have all those peppers to use up. It has a wonderful, rich, sweet flavor

Story:

Jersey Devil was developed, named and introduced by the Tomato Seed Co of Metuchen, New Jersey. They moved to Georgia many years ago and went out of business. Carolyn Male said she remembers getting their old newspaper-like red and green catalogs while they were still in New Jersey.

Jersey Devil has been listed in SSE Yearbooks since at least the late 1970's to early 1980's since it's SSE tomato 988. It was also offered by Totally Tomatoes in the late 1980's and recently Tomato Growers Supply reintroduced it and listed it.
