Ukrainian Purple aka Purple Russian

Lovely, dark purpley brown, plum shaped fruits with most having green shoulders. Fruits are generally blemish free, 3-4 inches long and about 6 oz on very productive plants. Plants have the same wispy leaves as hearts. Flavor is wonderful, deep and sweet. I consider them a little juicier than most pastes but that makes them more desirable for fresh eating. They are a wonderful addition to any sauce with their rich taste.

Story:

From Tatiana’s TOMATObase:

  • An heirloom variety from the Ukraine.
  • First introduced in the Seed Savers 1999 Yearbook by Frederick Ineman of Ravenna, Ohio (OH IN F), who said that the seed came from Ukraine, from their Aunt Irma Henkel in 1980.

This was first listed as Ukrainian Purple and latter the name was changed to Purple Russian. I will be using it's original name.
